Louis-Francois Cartier founded Cartier in Paris in 1847. His son, Alfred Cartier took over the business in 1874. It was Alfred's sons, Louis, Pierre, and Jacques, who've heightened the success of the famous world-wide brand name, Cartier. Each of the three sons branched out internationally; Cartier flagship mansion eventually purchased by the company from Morton Freeman Plant. Louis Cartier was responsible for some of the most celebrated design innovations, including the legendary mystery clocks, high fashion wristwatches and jewels. After the death of Pierre, Jacque's son, Louis' son, and Pierre's daughter sold the businesses in London, New York, and Paris. In 1972, Cartier Paris was bought by a group of investors, making Robert Hocq the new President. Cartier London and Cartier New York were eventually bought back. Cartier SA is a famous jeweler and watch manufacturer that is a subsidiary of Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA.
